Auchenflower Family Practice and our commitment
All staff of Auchenflower Family Practice strive to provide health care within a framework of the strengths of traditional family medicine. We seek to incorporate modern innovations in our medical services and support structures such as our front office and nursing department. We are also mindful of how our practice interacts with our local community. We see the value of research projects and have been involved in a number of these which have had direct relevance for our practice community. Education and Mentoring are an integral part of our practice. All our staff are actively involved in ongoing educational upskilling; we work in partnership with the University of QLD familiarising medical students with General Practice.

The Practice Environment
Starting in late July 2008, the practice will have facilities for 4 consultation rooms to be operational at one time. In addition we will have a counselling room, used by our GP counsellor and our Social Worker. We have a separate treatment room with the assistance of a Registered Nurse for a majority of any daily shift. The Surgery is just 5 minutes from Toowong Shopping Centre, where there is a wide variety of cafes and banking and shopping facilities.

Hospital Liaisons
The General Practitioners of this practice currently have clinical involvement in the care of patients at several of the local nursing homes. We have a strong link with the local Toowong Private Hospital. Our Doctors are involved in weekly hospital admissions of TPH clients who are seen as having more complex medical issues. We also have contact with Wesley Hospital. Dr Gary Whittaker and Dr Sue Colen have Visiting Medical Officer rights at Wesley Hospital. Dr Sue Colen also has visiting rights at Canossa hospital. Dr Gary Whittaker is a member of the Wesley Hospital Drug Advisory Board.

Dietitian - attends surgery once a month on a Saturday morning.

Home Visits
The doctors are happy to do home visits to patients who are too ill or incapacitated to attend the surgery.

There are geographic limits to this service.
